Nobody verified the layoff. The market believed it anyway
An unverified post about offshore layoffs. The part a firm controls is the ending.

A story about how a US employer ended offshore jobs reached the people you are trying to hire, and none of it was verified. Outsource Accelerator reported that Indian customer-service workers at a US bank were told their jobs were gone in a five-minute Google Meet. The account came from an anonymous Reddit post. The American Bazaar said the details of the account remain unconfirmed.
It spread anyway. The influencer Sara Gonzales reshared it on X, and the post reached far past the community it started in. People recognized the shape of it before anyone checked a single detail.
What actually traveled
A single anonymous post is not evidence. The American Bazaar said plainly that it does not establish the layoffs happened as described. A managing partner who refuses to set policy from Reddit is right to refuse, and I would refuse too. Unverified is unverified. But beliefs about an employer are built from stories rather than confirmations. This one spread because the people it was about found it entirely believable.
Plausible is the whole problem.
The half nobody writes
Firms document the start: tool access, schedules, escalation paths, who signs off on what. The pain there shows up in week one, so it gets written down. The last day gets nothing. Your offboarding process has never been cross-examined. A brief explanation and a revoked login are not a process. It is an outcome with a calendar invite on it.
The workers in that post are Indian. We place Filipino talent. The story crosses that border without slowing down, because the fear it carries is about the employer and not the country. We have noticed Filipino candidates asking whether the hire-and-fire culture is real, and they ask before an offer exists. A story like this one reaches them well before a recruiter does.
Who owns the ending
Two structures, two different answers. Hire someone directly, and the ending is yours to run, on your calendar, in your words, with nobody between you and the person. Engage a provider that employs the talent, and the ending belongs to them, which makes it a question worth asking before the contract is signed rather than after a post goes around. Somebody explains it either way. Which somebody is not a management style. It is the structure you signed.

Offshore staff management gets judged on the hire over time. Then it gets judged on one call that lasts five minutes.
Nobody can verify that call. A firm can verify its own last day.
