About the role

You work as a paralegal for a United States law firm, handling the document and case preparation work that keeps matters moving between filings. Your day covers drafting from templates, building and indexing discovery sets, keeping case files current, and pulling research and citations for the attorneys you support. Every piece of work you produce goes to a supervising attorney for review before it leaves the firm, so accuracy and clear handoff notes matter more than speed. This is a remote position with overlap into US business hours, and you will work directly with the attorneys on the matters rather than through a layer of coordinators.

Key responsibilities

Legal Document Preparation

  • Draft pleadings, motions, subpoenas, and correspondence from firm templates and attorney instructions.
  • Prepare exhibit lists, tables of authorities, and tables of contents for filings.
  • Assemble signature-ready packets with all attachments, certificates, and proofs of service in place.
  • Proofread documents against court formatting rules before routing them for attorney review.

Discovery Organization

  • Build and maintain discovery indexes covering productions, responses, and privilege logs.
  • Bates-stamp, rename, and load document sets into the firm's review platform.
  • Draft responses and objections to interrogatories and requests for production for attorney revision.
  • Track discovery deadlines and flag gaps in incoming productions.

Case Management

  • Maintain matter files so that pleadings, correspondence, and medical or financial records are filed where the team expects them.
  • Calendar court dates, response deadlines, and internal review dates in the firm's case management system.
  • Summarize depositions, medical records, and document sets into chronologies attorneys can work from.
  • Send status updates to the assigned attorney on open tasks and pending items.

Research and Citation Review

  • Run case law and statutory research on assigned issues and write up findings with pin cites.
  • Verify every citation in a draft for accuracy, current status, and correct Bluebook form.
  • Pull docket filings, court records, and public records requested by the attorney team.
  • Note where research is thin or unsettled so the attorney can decide how to proceed.

Qualifications

  • Three or more years of paralegal work supporting United States attorneys, including litigation matters.
  • Hands-on experience drafting pleadings and discovery responses that went to an attorney for review.
  • Working knowledge of a case management platform such as Clio, MyCase, Filevine, or Smokeball.
  • Experience with e-discovery and document review tools such as Relativity, Everlaw, or Logikcull, plus Adobe Acrobat Pro for Bates stamping and redaction.
  • Comfort with Westlaw or LexisNexis for case law research and citation checking.
  • Solid command of Bluebook citation format and federal and state court filing rules.
  • Ability to work a schedule with meaningful overlap into US business hours.
  • Precise written English and the habit of documenting what you did and what you were unsure of.
  • Self-directed enough to move a task list forward without daily check-ins, and quick to raise a question when instructions are unclear.
