About the role
You run email for a US law firm: the newsletter, the nurture sequences, and everything that goes out to people who have not yet booked a consult. This is a solo function. Nobody hands you a content calendar or a segment list, so you build both, then defend the choices with numbers. What separates this from most email jobs is the measure of success: consults booked, not opens or clicks. You will work inside Klaviyo or HubSpot daily, writing the copy yourself and building the flows yourself.
Key responsibilities
Newsletter and nurture sequences
- Plan, write, and send the firm's recurring newsletter on a fixed schedule.
- Build multi-step nurture sequences for each practice area the firm handles.
- Write subject lines and body copy that sound like a lawyer talking, not a brochure.
- Set up triggers, delays, and exit conditions so contacts stop receiving a sequence once they book.
List segmentation
- Segment contacts by case type so a personal injury lead never receives estate planning content.
- Split each segment further by stage: new inquiry, consult scheduled, consult missed, past client.
- Maintain suppression rules for active clients and anyone who has already retained the firm.
- Clean the list on a regular cycle and remove hard bounces and long-term non-openers.
Build and deployment in Klaviyo or HubSpot
- Build templates, flows, and forms directly in the platform without waiting on a designer.
- Test rendering across common email clients and on mobile before anything sends.
- Run A/B tests on subject lines, send times, and calls to action.
- Monitor deliverability, authentication records, and sender reputation.
Reporting on booked consults
- Track each email and sequence through to consults booked, using UTM tags and CRM data.
- Report monthly on which segments and sequences produce consults and which do not.
- Kill or rewrite sequences that generate opens but no appointments.
- Flag drop-off points between the email click and the completed booking.
Working solo with the firm
- Set your own weekly priorities and hold to a publishing schedule without someone chasing you.
- Pull source material from attorneys through short, specific requests rather than long meetings.
- Keep documentation of flows, segments, and naming conventions so the work is legible to others.
Qualifications
- Three or more years running email marketing end to end, including writing the copy yourself.
- Hands-on build experience in Klaviyo or HubSpot, with the ability to construct flows, segments, and templates unsupervised.
- Experience tying email activity to a downstream conversion (booked appointments, demos, consults) rather than reporting on opens.
- Working knowledge of a CRM and how contact data flows between it and your email platform.
- Comfort with UTM tagging, Google Analytics, and basic attribution reporting.
- Writing that is clear and plain, with the judgment to stay compliant when the subject is legal services.
- Self-direction: you decide what ships this week and it ships.
- Reliable overlap with US business hours and clear written updates when nobody is watching you work.
- Familiarity with legal intake or professional services marketing is an advantage.
